The 67 Inbound Covers are now in chronological order.

The only indication as to the volume of mail handled by the British Post Office at the Consulate is from the summary of the meeting to discuss temporary postal arrangements held on 5 February 1885. The data presented by the postmaster indicates that in the year 1884, about 11,000 letters were dispatched plus 2,500 newspapers. As for incoming mail there were approximately 12,500 letters and 16,200 newspapers. Here I document covers inbound to Bangkok between 1855 and 1885. In my book I have not done so. My only explanation is that most collectors and those that exhibit the British Consulate Post Office have concentrated on the outgoing mail. Items are listed in the table below are by the date of mailing. Each item is given a number. Clicking on an item's number in the left column will jump to its image below. Any receiving marks mentioned by the source are noted in an attempt to study several questions: Some maintained that the Bangkok CDS (1883 to 1885) found on some Straits Settlements and Hong Kong issues was applied on uncancelled stamps that arrived at the post office. Is there any evidence to support this? Mail for Bangkok coming through London was to be sent in a sealed bag for deliver to Bangkok. Can a study of these covers prove that? How else did mail arrive at Bangkok? Interestingly, not a single cover below has a BANGKOK CDS applied as a receiving mark!

Todd, Findlay & Co. The 'Todd, Finlay & Co' of Rangoon, Burma was established by two Scotsmen, James Todd, and Thomas Findlay. They were the managers and were operating the Burma Steam Tug Co. In May 1864 'Todd, Finlay & Co' purchased the assets, vessels and goodwill of the Irrawaddy Flotilla Company for £16,200. The fleet originally consisted of four steamers and four flats (as barges were known in south Asia). The business had been managed by 'P Henderson & Company' from Glasgow. The newspaper the Straits Observer on 30 November 1874 mentioned that Mr. D.J. Cama had arrived at Singapore from Shanghai aboard the steamer Hooghly.

The Straits Times of 23 January 1875 mentioned that Mr. P.B. Cama was departing from Singapore by ship for Hong Kong.

On 21 April 1871 Steamer Bangkok depated for Bangkok, Captain Haffenden in charge.

The letter was sent by the French wine merchant Moreau.

• Suez (5 December) to Aden (10 December) and Colombo (17 December) per P&O Thames.
• Colombo (19 December to Singapore (26 December) per P&O Tasmania.
• Singapore (26 December) to Bangkok (about 28 December - cannot confirm) per McAlister & Co. steamer McAlister.
• 5d paid the 1/2 oz rate via Brindisi.
• My understanding is that a fee would also have been paid to the ship's captain for the final leg to Bangkok.
